Workshop description:

Computer graphics has revolutionized creative arts. From the earliest 3D games to the computer generated imagery (CGI) that's become a staple of Hollywood blockbusters and Netflix boxed sets, technology allows artists, designers, and film-makers to take us on journeys into fantastic fictional worlds. But did you ever wonder how it actually works? How do we go from code, wireframes and algorithms, to photorealistic images and videos?

In this live, interactive workshop with Dylan Beattie, we'll learn about ray-tracing, the fundamental technology behind photorealistic computer graphics. During the first part of the workshop, we'll explore the mathematics behind light and shade, colour and texture, and implement these ideas by building a simple ray-tracer in JavaScript that runs in a browser. Then, during the second part of the workshop, we'll use our JS ray-tracer to create our own digital works of art.

The number of participants is limited.

Approximate duration: 4 hours. Starts on April 14, at 2:00 p.m. till 6 p.m. (GMT+3).

The event will be held in English.

The workshop is run fully online, using Zoom and various online collaboration tools.

Audience:

This workshop is aimed at developers from all levels and backgrounds; all you'll need to take part is a browser, a code editor, and a little imagination.
